Book Study - Session #4, Feb. 17, 2026

Book Chapter 22: Become Like Children

Kingdom Secret: We must change from being proud of what we are and what we know to being humble and teachable.

Discussion:

· Why are we motivated to convince others that we are right?

· Why do we feel so good when others tell us we are right?

Scripture:

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Mat. 18:3-5 ESV)

Book Chapter 24: Compared to What

Kingdom Secret: Success in God’s kingdom is entirely different from success in the world.

Discussion:

· Do you consider yourself reasonably successful? Why?

· What is God’s measure of success for you?

Scripture:

A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. (Luke 22:24-28)

Book Chapter 26: Evil Root

Kingdom Secret: God owns everything; you get to look after some of it for him.

Discussion:

· Why does God want your money?

· What is so magical about a tithe (10%)?

Scripture:

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. (Malachi 3:10 ESV)

Book Chapter 27: No Trespassing

Kingdom Secret: Forgiveness is a command from God, no exceptions.

Discussion:

· What is it about us that makes forgiveness difficult?

· Do Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:16 contradict his promise of salvation to all those who believe?

Scripture:

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Mat 6:14-15 ESV)
